Wow, this is a hard one to write. {deep breath} I’ve decided to close DollyRock. After almost 4 years, I think it’s time to move on, although, no doubt it’s going to leave a gaping hole in my life. There are going to be some big changes to Second Life over the coming months, so I’m going to take some time out and learn new skills and maybe return with something new and fresh. Alternatively I might get to finish the book I’m writing or just blog and twitter
I need to tell you some things that are NOT going to happen. The DollyRock brand will be gone – I’m not selling to an affiliate or franchisee, not leaving a small shop anywhere, taking down everything from X Street (SL Marketplace) so all the outfits will be totally gone from the grid at the end of the sale. So get them while you can!
I’m having a massive sale for the next couple of weeks and ALL DollyRock outfits have been reduced to 75L (except the 50L store of course..hehe). All transferable, perfect for your alt or as gifts even if you have them already. So come down and turn on your music…I’ve put together a ‘goodbye’ playlist which is only a tiny bit of tongue in cheek
Nothing else to say..except you really are THE BEST customers in Second Life and I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the business, friendship, love and support you’ve given me over the years. THANK YOU!!
The website will stay for the forseeable future so check back for gossip or follow me on Twitter
(ps If you know anyone who wants to buy a full sim…slightly used, one careful lady owner….)
We have a twinkly, shiny new store! Okay where do I start? It’s bigger and brighter and built over two levels and its packed with DollyRock goodness!
The new releases are in the corner as you land and behind you Heather Beebe of Rockberry has done us proud with a lovely area for her scrummy skins.
Under the big tree you’ll find 4 or 5 freebie gift bags. I’ve grouped the clothes pretty much in the same categories as they were before, except some are missing…. because they’re in the new 50L store. Oh didn’t I mention that? You’ll find stairs down to the DollyRock Bottom bargain basement and here I’ve made a collection, a mix of older stuff from the store, some outfits that I ‘retired’ in January brought back by popular request and even some new items made especially for the economy section. Yes, they’re all 50L! In the alcove down here you’ll find the changing room and lucky chairs…
both have new outfits, exclusive to the chairs. Babe in black and Vanessa in aqua. Grab them while they’re hot!
While you’re downstairs take a peek outside at the bunnies. Yes my little bunnies started breeding like er…rabbits, so I need to find good homes for some of them. If you don’t know about Ozimals bunnies just click on one of the ‘live’ rabbits and you’ll get an option to get all the info about them. They are just so damn cute and transferable too so make a perfect Easter gift. Around the edge you’ll see the bunny nests….cuteness overload here. You ‘kindle’ or birth a rabbit by clicking on the nest and an hour later a teeny little ball of bunny will pop out and start hopping around. I’m only a little bit addicted, honest! Down in the bunny area is the rideable giraffe too, try it out!
Charity in Second Life is very much in the air today as we’re about to see the opening of the 2010 RFL Clothing Fair. With all this activity I was reminded that I’m overdue an update on our own charity. Here at DollyRock we’ve been sponsoring a child in Kenya via Plan International for almost 2 years. Contributions are collected at the little Gratis store in the mall outside the main store and any shortfall at the end of the month is made up by DollyRock. So even if you haven’t donated directly if you’ve ever bought anything at DollyRock you’re still sharing the love!
We are paying £12 a month (approx. $24 USD or 6700L) to help fund projects in this impovrished community.
The child that we sponsor is Mark, who is 7 years old and lives in the Homabay region of Kenya which borders Tanzania. He lives with his Mum, Dad and older brother, Michael in a mud and sticks house with a corrugated metal roof. He attends preschool which is situated less than 30 minutes away but the nearest health facility is more than two hours away. The family obtain water from an open community well. Plan does not encourage specific information or photographs of sponsored children to be shared on web pages but if you would like more information please don’t hesitate to contact me, Cherry Cheevers, inworld or email me at cherry@dollyrock.co.uk
I’ve put more information about Mark at the donation point. Thank you so much for helping
I’ve spent the last couple of days playing with the new viewer. So far, so good. It’s a bit resource hungry for me right now but it does have some amazing features. For example:
Ever since I started designing in 2006 my outfits have always been no copy/yes transfer (except for freebies). The permission preferences seem to fluctuate, rather like fashion itself. Personally, I hate messing with gift cards if I want to give a gift. I like to just pick something out and hand it over, it seems a lot more personal than a card. I also think that if a customer buys an item from me they should be at liberty to pass it to an alt or a friend or even sell it at a yard sale. Just my personal opinion and this argument is as old as SL itself. Okay, okay…stick with me. One of the criticisms I’ve heard of ‘no-copy’ is the inability to create folder of clothes and we all love to do the mix’n match thing. With the release of the new viewer now we CAN create folders with no-copy clothes and objects appearing more than once in more than one folder. It doesn’t contravene permissions…it’s just MAGIC!!
So if you have any ‘no-copy’ items and you’d like to create wearable folders with them please watch the video from Torley, below. (He explains it soooo much better). I hope you’re as excited as I am!!
I know some of us are suffering from Social Network Exhaustion Syndrome, unindated as we are with Facebook, Twitter, Plurk invites, etc etc. However, you may have read this blog post from Linden Labs re their aquisition of the social networking site Avatars United. Given that many of Facebook’s Second Life avatars are being deleted because they contravene their terms of service, this looks like it may be a better option. First impressions are that it feels a much more comfortable experience than Facebook. If you give it a try, feel free to friend me and say hi http://www.avatarsunited.com/avatars/cherry-cheevers
