About DollyRock

DollyRock was founded by Cherry Cheevers in October 2006.  There is a common misconception that the name, DollyRock, is linked to a famous country singer but Cherry chose the name after some deliberation in an effort to find something that was unique and gave a feeling of what she was hoping to achieve in Second Life.

DollyRock sounded like fun!

As a designer of ‘real life’ fashion for the dollfie community and 8 years experience of using Photoshop the progression towards design in Second Life was natural for Cherry.  She started off on a tiny plot of land with a few t-shirts and was always careful not to over reach herself financially; as the sales began to increase she gradually rented or bought slightly bigger plots and stores. Her reputation for her output of quality outfits and shapes at affordable prices quickly grew along with her fondness for pink, both in her designs and the colour of her stores!

In April 2007 Cherry took the plunge and purchased a full sim which gave her the freedom to spread out her growing stock of outfits and develop other ideas.  She landscaped the sim to include a huge luxury yacht that incorporated a nightclub, RockDollies where prize events were held several times a week.   She opened an art gallery enabling 10 SL artists to exhibit their art without charge. She incorporated a small mall outside her main store and invited a few friends to fill the units.  She made shoes, tattoos, bridal gowns and dabbled with men (outfits of course!) but always came back to her first love, designing clothes for DollyRock Divas.

Cherry’s natural inclination was always for the sexier style of clothing, the lacy tops and tiny skirts that were always popular with customers many of whom worked in the entertainment industry within Second Life.  As her business has grown so has Cherry’s range and she prides herself on the variety available in the main store which ranges from business suits to latex body suits, from formal gowns to bunny costumes and everything in between.  The DollyRock business slogan is ‘because you’re different every day’ emphasising the fact that in Second Life we never have to be confined by any style, genre or even sex.  Barbie today, Goth tomorrow.  We can have it all and all in one store!

Cherry is amazed and humbled at the success of DollyRock and the loyalty and kindness of her customers many of whom are now friends.  The DollyRock Diva group, now on Subscribeomatic, has around 3,700 members and is growing every day.  In an effort to put something back into the Second Life community Cherry installed a money tree for new residents, became a Second Life Mentor and along with donations from customers DollyRock sponsors a little boy in Kenya, Africa.  The sim currently includes free ice skating and Paradise Blankets, just for fun!

In her life outside of SL Cherry’s ‘manager’ is an English woman who lives in the Midlands, UK.  Currently undertaking an advanced Creative Writing course at the Open University she’s constantly burning the candle at both ends – the reason for temporarily closing RockDollies and placing the new art gallery’s official opening on hold.

She’s a geeky gadget lover who has 20,000 mp3s and discovered blogging 8 years ago.  She’s trying to cut down on buying domain names (14 at last count) and is never more that 12 inches away from some form of internet connected appliance!
